How to care for succulents
One of the big questions people have is, “How do you take care of succulents?”. A lot of times
everyone thinks succulents are indestructible and can take as much sun, neglect, or even a lot
of water, but that's not the case. Here’s a list of top ways to care of succulents.
Use well-draining soil
Do not over water
Give them a “quick dip” in water
Don’t give them too much sun

One of the big questions people have is, “How do you take care of succulents?”. A lot of times
everyone thinks succulents are indestructible and can take as much sun, neglect, or even a lot
of water, but that is not the case. The two big things you need to keep in mind to have success
with succulents are well-draining soil and not to over-water them. Over-watering them is probably
the worst thing you can do with a succulent because what will happen is it will get too much water
and it will start to rot. The way succulents work is that the leaves are where the water is held so if
you have too much water it will lead to leaves rotting; once that happens you are in trouble.
Here is one so you can see where it is rotting out but surprisingly here is a little side friend that is
gonna try to grow so we could peel him off and try to replant him and give him a fresh start. You
can see little small roots already started so there is no reason to panic because succulents are
resilient but sometimes once they rot it might be too late. This other plant fell apart but if you can
see closely, it is already starting to bud new growth so what you need to do is not water it. Once
it starts to dry out it will start to shoot out some roots and then you can take it from there. If you are
in the Southern California area, where it is really dry, sometimes when you water them it doesn’t
sink in enough. So, what I like to do is take it in for a quick dip in a bucket of water and just let it
go so that way you know it got a good drink.
Here we have a nice grouping of Echeverias that have a beautiful color, the way they get that
color is from lack of water and a lot of sun. The sun stresses them as well as the lack of water
and when that happens they go from a greenish color or a very light color into a more deep
color. Now, if you put this in the shade it would get much lighter so that is how you get color with
succulents. With succulents, the rule of thumb is to not over-water them, don’t put them in the
sun where it’s too hot, and talk to them every day and they’ll be happy!
