How We Make Our Succulent Wreaths
In order to make a succulent wreath we use one of two types of wreath frames. One is made from dried grape vine and the other is a metal frame. To start the process we “moss the frame”. This entails using Oregon moss and wiring it to the frame. The moss creates a bed for the succulents to root into and to retain moisture. Succulents over time send out roots even without soil and some will grow little rosette type sprouts on their stem as they multiply.
Quality Succulents are Important
Urban Succulents works a variety of independent succulent growers in Southern California. We do not pre-order our succulents. We like to go and hand select every succulent we use similar to a chef going to the farmers market and seeing what looks good, We like to use large echeveria rosettes and complement them with crassula or sedum succulents and finish them off with a tillandsia (air plant) or haworthia (zebra plant) or another seasonal plant that offers texture and dimension to the wreath.
How to Care for Your Succulent Wreath
Succulents like lots of natural light, but can only handle full sun in late fall, winter and early Spring. Otherwise they need to be protected from the harsh midday sun during the Summer. They can handle cold weather to 48 degrees. As for watering you can bottle spray them or give them a good watering with the hose and then leave them alone for the next 7- 10 days before watering again.
How much does a succulent wreath cost?
The price for a succulent wreath will depend on several factors including the size of the wreath, number of succulents and detail. A 12” wreath which measure closer to 14” in diameter once moss has been added can range in price from $50 to $150 depending on whether it is a crescent wreath or a fully planted wreath. The best thing to do is to browse the web and find a style and price point that fits your taste and budget. Get creative and make your own or shop succulent wreaths right here.
